In all of these classes, my teachers are always showing us amazing things that people do. Whenever I look at these things I always feel so inspired. Like maybe one day I might be able to do that. I always walk away with new love and admiration for this major.
...Then it comes time for me to do my assignments and I stress out like crazy. I spend most of my in class working time trying really hard to think of something amazing to do. Then I have to spend the time that I have at home (which is like 2 hours a day) actually doing my assignments.
Homework time goes a little something like this:
Me: Ugh I suck at this! I hate this! I am switching majors
Ben: Syd you just need to be more patient and pay attention to detail
Me: But I can't draw! I'm not creative! Who am I kidding?
...and the cycle goes on and on until eventually I finish the assignment. I actually have gotten good grades and critiques on my assignments thus far. So I guess I'm not really bad at this, I just have a long and frustrating creative process.
Maybe someday all these things I'm learning will do me good and my love/hate relationship will even out...maybe...
In the mean time... Here are some things that I find amazing:
Gregory Crewdson-These are PHOTOS made to look that way with advanced lighting techiniques
Phillip Toledano:
"Days with my Father"- this collection made me cry in class... haha
Denis Darzacq:
This next one couldn't have ended well...
Kahn and Selesnick:
Funny thing is all of these are photography which isn't my major. There are graphic design things that I find amazing and inspiring as well they are just harder to find... Oh well hope you enjoyed them as much as I did.
Love Love Love
