Sunday was Ben's 30th birthday. I had my yoga certification all day Friday and Saturday, so we just went out to dinner at Niko Niko's on Friday night, then had people over for cake and ice cream Sunday night. I made carrot cake--as per Ben's request--and put a little twist on it by adding almond extract to the frosting*, a trick I learned from Taggart's.
We ate our cake and ice cream on the rooftop terrace of our apartment complex. It was dimly lit and provided a great view of the skyline. "People" were saying it was quite urban chic ;). The most amazing thing about that day, to me, was the fact that we already have so many friends to come and celebrate with us. We love this ward.
Ben has mixed feelings about turning thirty. I think it made him feel better that he was still pretty much the youngest person on the roof that night (besides me, of course). I think he should feel good about turning thirty (even though I tease him about it**) because he has four degrees, a job with one of the top accounting firms in the world, and a lot of opportunity and potential ahead of him. Plus, his wife is only 21 ;). Happy birthday Hub.
*Our friend, the professional pastry chef, noticed the almond extract on the first bite. I think he liked it because he took a piece home. This means I'm like an honorary pastry chef.
**Ben didn't think it was funny when I suggested getting a candle shaped like a tombstone that read "over the hill" on it. Haha, I still think its funny.
